School of Management and Business Studies is a regular statutory Department for Management studies in Mahatma Gandhi University. This School had a humble beginning on 25th March 1999 with a two-year full-time MBA programme for the management aspirants with the objective of moulding enterprising youth into career-oriented and competent management professionals. With dedicated and high calibre professional expertise and state-of-art infrastructure, the institution imparts the best of theory and practical knowledge to carve a niche for itself in the challenging two year MBA, MPhil and PhD programmes on Management and Business Studies. This is one of the prominent Management Institutes in South India.

Mission
SMBS contributes to the growth of national development and quality of life through management education by training professionals for both business and service organizations. Its quest is to prepare managers with professional competency, outstanding leadership qualities, personal integrity, sensitivity to ethical issues and empathy for the weak and less privileged.
• The programme is streamlined and well articulated to provide the best inputs in management education.
• Management issues relating to both the domestic and international arena form the core inputs of the programme.
• The programme is designed to impart knowledge, sharpen personal and managerial skills, widen the knowledge base in areas of specialization and to inculcate in students right attitudes and values which are essential for creating competent managers.
• The course content is constantly revised and updated through feedback and evaluations to make it more responsive to the changes and needs of a developing country.

    The curriculum is updated on regular basis to keep abreast with the changing needs of the industry.

Infrastructure and Learning Resources

Students are given practical classes in which they have to make thorough analysis of the theories they have been taught. Periodical tests and internal’ evaluations are the methods of judging their knowledge. Those who show poor performances are given remedial coaching. Faculty members give individual attention to those students. All modern teaching aids are available in the School. In addition SMBS gives prime importance to the most modern student centered teaching techniques such as live case studies, video case studies, conflict management techniques, character moulding, etc. using the latest media presentation tools. The School has an excellent virtual class room.
• Computer and Communication Lab
The School has state-of-the-art hardware and software resources capable of providing support for diverse requirements of the students including enhancing the communication skills. This acts as a resource center to
supplement classroom instructions with laboratory sessions.

  • Library
    The Department library has a collection of rare books on various disciplines. The library subscribes to many professional publications including international journals and magazines. In addition to the department library, there is a computerized central library with an extensive collection of recorded data. Both libraries remain open for 12 hours on all days. A placement cell is functioning under the supervision of faculty members with the participation of students’ representatives. The department has registered a good placement record in national and international organizations.

A Placement Cell is  functioning under the supervision of faculty members with the participation of students representatives.  The Department has registered a good placement record in national and international organizations.

Consultancy services

Consultancy service is offered to small and medium scale industries and other interested parties for reasonable remuneration.  Recently the department conducted a market study for HMT – Quetcos.

 SMBS’s Alumni Association was started in 2001.  It acts as a meeting ground for SMBS’s past and present students.  It also organizes refresher courses for old students to keep up with current trends in Management.  In short, the School enjoys some kind of uniqueness among other B Schools in India.
