The Hinsdale High School District 86 Board is looking for someone to fill a vacant seat on the school board until the April election.

The board asks anyone interested in the position to send his or her resume and letter of interest to the district by 5 p.m. Sept. 12. The board will review all applications and will contact applicants with the next steps.

District 86 chief communications officer Karen Warner said the board has not decided whether it will interview candidates and, if so, whether the interviews would take place in public or in closed session.

A seat became available when Robin Gonzales abruptly resigned Sept. 4 because she moved out of the district, board President Bill Carpenter said.

The board has 45 days to choose someone to fill the vacancy. If the board does not name anyone, the regional superintendent of schools can appoint someone within the next 30 days.

Several board members said the district needs a full seven-member board over the next six-plus months.

“There’s enough work to do,” said board member Keith Chval, and a seven-person board means there would not be tie votes.

Members Jennifer Planson and Nancy Pollak both said the input of a seventh person is valuable.

“We have talented community members who could benefit this board,” Planson said.

It also would be an opportunity for someone who is considering running for the school board in April to see if they like the position, Planson said.

Residents can apply online at www.surveymonkey.com/r/D86Board2018 , which also is posted on the district website, d86.hinsdale86.org.

Applicants with questions should contact the school board secretary, Deb Kedrowski, at [email protected] People with general questions should contact Karen Warner at [email protected]

Hinsdale-Clarendon Hills Elementary District 181 received applications from 18 people when a vacancy on the board occurred Aug. 14.
